ALICE - Bruce Truman Heard, 92, passed away February 11, 2013 in Alice.
He was born August 4, 1920 in Leola, Arkansas to Albert B. and Mattie Heard. He was a World War II Army veteran and retired from Dixie Iron Works as foreman of the welding department.
Bruce was a member of the First United Methodist Church and served as past president of the Wesley Sunday School Class, served on the church board and was head usher for many years. He also was a member of S. B. Mosser Lodge #912 and Past Patron for the Eastern Star. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Carl Heard; two sisters, Mammie Mays and Fern Nolan; and one granddaughter, Terri Lizabeth Heard.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Martha Heard of Alice; two sons, William Bruce (Yvonne) Heard of Alice and Glen Keith (Karen) Heard of Miles, Texas; two half-brothers, Gerald Heard and James Heard; one half-sister, Linda Beck; four grandchildren, Casey (Matt) Fischer, Sara Heard, Garret Heard, and Trey Heard; two step grandsons, Ben Lantrip and Billy Lantrip; three great grandchildren, Skyler, Haylee, and Allyson Fischer; one sister-in-law, Billye Dallas of Jackson, MS; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m., Thursday, February 14, 2013 at Holmgreen Mortuary.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m., Friday, February 15, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church. A Masonic Graveside service will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park with military honors by the United Veterans Burial Association of Alice.
