2/13/2013 11:32:00 AM Lozano named to Trade & Intergovernmental Affairs Committee, Energy Resources Committee
JM Lozano State Representative
Two weeks ago, Speaker of the House Joe Straus announced Committee assignments for the 83rd Legislative session. I am proud to be appointed to serve as Vice-Chairman of the International Trade & Intergovernmental Affairs Committee and serve as a member of the Energy Resources Committee.
As a returning member of the Energy Resources Committee, I will have the opportunity to work with my colleagues to promote production in the Eagle Ford Shale play and continue to push for legislation that powers the state and stimulates job growth.
I will also advocate for more skills and technical training for young people, so they have the necessary education to get great jobs in South Texas.
The International Trade & Intergovernmental Affairs Committee maintains jurisdiction over international trade, interstate trade, trade between the state of Texas and the United States, and retains authority over international and border region issues like economic development, public health and safety issues affecting the border, and tourism development. In 2012, the State of Texas ranked as the top exporting state in the country, accounting for approximately $265 billion in exports of goods.
As Vice-Chairman of this committee, I will be able to use my leadership position to concentrate on issues that directly impact South Texas. For example, promote Texas' position as an energy exporting state, which will only grow with the planned liquefied natural gas facilities in San Patricio County. I will also continue to advocate for our farmers and ranchers who export agricultural goods throughout the United States and the world.
Additionally, because the Committee is responsible for border region issues, I will have a greater voice in fighting for increased border security measures in the region.
In addition to serving on committees, I serve on several caucuses, which are groups of legislators that meet to advocate for certain issues. I serve as Vice-Chairman of the House Energy Caucus, Vice-Chairman/Secretary of the House Rural Caucus and represent South Texas in the House Republican Caucus Policy Committee.
It is an honor to serve you in the Legislature. Each Committee and caucus gives me the opportunity to promote legislation that truly benefits South Texas.
