6/27/2014 10:11:00 AM Two arrested for racing along Front Street
Two men were arrested for racing along Front Street at about 8:12 p.m. Thursday. Officer Juan Martinez was at City Hall when he heard two loud engines revving, according to his report.
He observed a white and a silver Ford Mustang traveling west along the 600 block of E. Front Street.
The report said they appeared to be in "a competition of speed, attempting to outdistance each other."
Martinez stopped the driver of the silver Mustang at the intersection of King and East Front streets. A second officer pulled over the other Mustang.
Both men, identified as Joshua Nathaniel Schoolcraft and Mathew Valdez, were arrested and charged with racing on the highway. Both vehicles were towed.
According to Martinez's report, while being booked at the jail, he observed Valdez and Schoolcraft "joking around" about their racing. And, Valdez told another inmate about the racing modifications his vehicle had and stated he "now needed a lifted pickup truck to stay out of trouble."
