Ramon named Chief of Police
|The new Chief is congratulated by his officers and office personnel.|
Rex Ramon is the City of Alice's new Chief of Police.
Interim City Manager Hector Hinojosa made the recommendation at Thursday night's City Council meeting after interviewing candidates on Tuesday.
Ramon was up for the job along with Interim Chief Albert Martinez and Sgts. Aniceto Perez and Richard De Leon.
Making the motion was Mayor Pro-tem Michael Esparza. Councilman Frank HInojosa gave the second, and the vote was unanimous.
Hinojosa said it was a hard decision to make.
Ramon had nothing but praise for the officers in his department, and was honored to be selected as the new chief.
"We have a good group of guys working for us," he said outside of City Hall. "We have to pull together and continue doing what we do for the City of Alice. I'm ready to put my ideas to work. It's not going to be my way or no way. It's the whole department."
He said he was grateful for the selection, noting he'd worked hard for 28 years in the department.
"When someone works hard, there is a light at the end of the tunnel," he said. "That was my day today."
